Adventure Camp

Great adventure for disabled children

‘Sama Foundation’ took eight children to the Adventure Camp Honemarudu, at the Sharavathi River near Shimoga.
Together with a group from ‘APD’ and ‘Dream Mate Dream’ there were 50 disabled and non-disabled children. The 16th November everybody was welcomed by Mrs. Nomita and her Adventure Team. All children were divided in two mixed groups. While some participated in different land activities, the other part made their first swimming-experiences. Some children overcame their fear and where swimming after a while. Disabled found out that they are able to swim and some non-disabled found their disability in their head, because they were unable to overcome their fear.
Each day started with the silent time, 30 minutes in which everybody was observing and listening to the nature. After breakfast half of the group went boating to a small island. Who wanted tried paddling. The second part of the group experienced for 45minutes how it is to be blind. The children found out that it can be confusing and frightening and wondered how visually impaired people can manage their daily life. That night some physically disabled children build up a tent and the group slept outside after a joyful night at the campfire with singing, jokes and dancing.
The 18th was a challenge for many children. It was the trekking day. By this time the three groups already mixed up, friendships between disabled and non-disabled grew. They motivated and helped each other, so finally everybody reached the top of the mountain and was gifted by a fantastic view over the river landscape.
The last day began early, at 6.30 the group was enjoying the sunrise. Afterwards everybody went swimming for the last time. In the end reflection many participants said how much they enjoyed seeing some disabled developing and how they were included in the whole group made them happy. Everybody was sad to leave and thanked the Adventure Team a lot for their program, support and engagement for the group.

Hier in Osnabrück läuft eigentlich alles ganz gut... ;-)

    Lieben Gruß
    Michael
